Personally, and this is just me, take the block to a reliable machine shop, have it vatted, all bearing surfaces/tolerances checked/resurfaced/made ready for a re-build. If the cylinders don't need to be bored, they'll tell ya. What damage did chunks of pistons do to bearing surfaces before being trapped by the filter?????? Only your machine shop can tell.

Kinda agree with him.... I would yank it and take it in..... don't know the extent of the damage done.... also really good time to bore and stroke it.... but that's the street rodder in me.....

UNless you are willing to drop alot of money....You need to stop and add up what it will cost at machine shop at the very worst... because 9 out of 10 times.. that thing will need bored.. you will have to buy new pistons... you are at over 1000 bucks now by time you get it out of machine shop... then rest to rebuild it..crank...new cam& lifters valve job ... once you take to machine shop and walk in the door.. its money out of pocket and alot of times with no gain fwd... weigh options...used engine...reman... buy another jeep and part it...

But once you take your stuf to shop.. its going to cost you 50-100 bucks just for them to tell you .. its going to need bored...and it will

Fir the most part shops are not around to save you money, I work a Lincoln dealership, trust me on this, the best thing you can do for yourself is like the other guy said, either hone it yourself to the best that you can and hope for the best, if you love that truck to drop 1500 in it then rebuild the motor, or talk to a yard, used motors go about 450 to 600 and you seem to be pretty handy with a tool so you can probably get away with doing thswap yourself or worst case part out the jeep and buy a new one. I had the same issue but lucky for my the pistons were perfect and when I say perfect the cylinder walls still have the cross hatches, the head was pretty warped, 160-110-60-90-55-160 was the compression and damnt the saddest thing is about the whole story... I am getting the same mpg as I was when missing firing on 3 and 5 yeah... Tell me how that works

I went to U pull it.. got a 145k mile motor for $150.. that was obviosly exstreamly well maintained.. as in oil changes and runing premunim...it was so clean on inside... but rods did have some copper showing.. so i did all the bearings... and seals on bottom end... resealed topend.... and for about 500 bucks I have a motor that runs as good as a brand new one...and will prob go 200k miles before i have to do anythig to it inside again...
but trust me...motors cost way more to rebuild yourself... you will not get the scratches out of cyl wall.. i dont need to even see it.. i can tell by the piston you trashed the block and it will have to be bored... you will save 500 going with a reman by time all said and done... over cost of a REAL overhaul...

yes they are.. but they are massed produced in huge shops and can cut cost alot... Ive rebuilt hundreds of motors ... and no way can you do it cheaper... its always cheaper to go reman then doing it youself... all reman have new pistons.. bored.. cranks turned... complete head job and complet manuflux for cracks...new cam lifters... usally about the only thing reused is the push rods... rockers and rods....

YES doing it yourself if you got the no how will produce a better engine... you can get better parts... but then thats even more money...

the reused parts are checked for weakness and straightness most people get scared when they here reused with out an explanation that all the parts are either re-manufactured or checked for durability

Couldn't agree more but surely you haven't rebuilt hundreds of motors for your health.......you enjoy it, right? I do, it's a hobby, 383ci Chevy strokers are my favorite and I always let a machine shop do the block prep and I take it from there, that's just the way I roll. I've never ended up with somebody else's Monday morning/Friday afternoon motor.
