Default Jeep Shuts off Intermittently While Driving After Dropping Trans

Hey Guys,

Recently I've been experiencing issues with my jeep shutting off while driving it. It happens all the time randomly mostly above 2k rpm's but it's happened even when I'm stopped also. When it happens when I'm accelerating the whole jeep lurches, the Tach, Speedometer, and Oil pressure gauge drop and then they go back right to where they were before (no loss of any electrical power except for the CEL that is usually on turning off and then coming back on a few seconds later). It hasn't fully died on me while I was moving yet but it has when I've been stopped or it has been idling in my driveway.

I had to drop the transmission (my first time doing this) to retrieve two metal pins that locate the shifter that had fallen in. If you're interested in that I made a post about it. While it was out I changed the clutch, flywheel, all the bearings and such that come with the clutch kit, and the Crank position sensor with an aftermarket one. During the removal process, we had pinched the wires on the cps apparently and it was completely cut in half when we got it out. Before this removal and a little bit after I had gotten the trans back in I was not having these issues. *As a side note this xj was a manual swap when I bought it and it still has the automatic computer in it to my knowledge so there are always a few CEL codes for the missing auto trans sensors. Once the issues started I looked it up on the forums and most of the stuff I read pointed me to aftermarket CPS's being shoddy so I went to a Jeep dealership near me and bought an original Mopar one and installed it. Unfortunately, that did not fix my issue, and the first time I drove I actually experienced a new problem on top of the cutting out where right after I started the jeep up if I tried to put it in gear and go before sitting idling and hitting the gas a few times it would just die. I have not experienced this again after that first trip and the cutting out seems to be no different.

I'm lost as to where to go from this. It's driveable but extreme pain in the ***. if you have any input/ ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Dreading having to replace the cps again.

2000 Xj Sport 4.0L Ax-15

Thanks in advance,
Shane

My experience with these types of issues usually has been that the wiring is shorted or open at some point in the harness or exterior wiring to a module or such.
It may be necessary to follow your foot steps of where you were and what you did because something is definitely messed up.
The DVM will be your best friend by the time you've finished.

Make sure the wires going down to the CPS and O2 sensors are not touching anything. Also that the bellhousing is bolted up tight against the block.
