The "Key Tricks"
Older (OBDI) models - Start with the ignition off. Within five seconds, switch the key on, off, on, off, on. ("On" is NOT "Start" and "Off" is NOT "Lock"). The "check engine" light will flash. Count the flashes. Each code is a two digit code, so a (for example) 23 would be FLASH FLASH (pause) FLASH FLASH FLASH (long pause). It will never flash more than 9 times, so watch for those pauses!

The vacuum diaphragm you speak of us the modulator valve. I don't believe we have those in our jeeps. The white smoke is an initial state if rich then it turns into black when left unfixed. With the newer cars having cats and o2 sensors black smoke is becoming more and more uncommon (unless you drive a diesel. But as you said blue is definately oil.

Agreed! (That's why I wrote "in a chevy")..OK then, white carbon is a new one on me. Maybe a trick of the light....Water being a byproduct of combustion I suppose there might be somewhere where extra fuel might make extra steam???
