Default Jeep XJ dash and tail lights out

A few weeks ago, my dash and tail lights went out. Ive recently replaced the headlamp switch, replaced fuses, pulled out a relay and turned the dimmer switch as suggested by forums. I replaced the bulbs on the tail lights and the dash. Ive heard that the dash lights go out as a warning for the tail lights and that they're connected. Ive traced wires and searched forums and I don't know what else to do. Autozone was no help. They said their electronics guy was on vacation

What year is the vehicle? And is there anything at all in the cabin that is -not- working besides the dash lights? It would be important to know.

It's a 1990, I forgot to add that. It's the dash/shifter/hvac lights that don't work, as well as the tail lights. My brake, reverse and signal lights are fine. The light for my exhaust leak still works. I don't know if it matters but my oil gauge and speedometer/odometer haven't worked since before my light issue
