Are you referring to the one that holds the tire?

If you are looking at the bottom of the jeep were the fuel cell is its were the mount for the fuel cell and the rear bumper guard meat. In desert racing its ok to bump slower car out of your way so being that JS is a slower class you need a lot of protection on the rear.

No Kyle it is further back and is made of pipe in the form of a supported triangle. It appears to be connected to the drivers side but not to the passenger side. It is located in several pictures of the Jeep on page two of the album. Take another look and see what I mean. It may be some form of protection when being pushed out of the way as he indicated but it seems unlikely.
