Junk yard overhead question
Found this today out of a ZJ. I plan to make it workers I do the headliner but I'm unsure of what the small round bubble device is. I assume it's some sort of dimmer but for what ? Anyone know ?

I wonder if the compass will just need power to work ? I guess I'll take out the bubble and figure out something else to put in there...maybe a disco ball ? LOL

Oh, I'm glad you followed up on that. I was torquing my brain trying to figure this out:
Yeah, there ya go!

So I tried to get a ZJ console to work in my XJ. I got the lights to work ok but the computer would only give me a compass. All the other stuff was not available. I wired in a ZJ body computer with temp sensor and connected it to the CAN bus as well.
In the end I got a console from a 90 XJ and hooked it up and now I have the temp as well as compass. It looks better too IMO. There's a harness for it under the passenger side dash in my 96 so I didn't have to rig up much to make it work.

Looks like I have some work to do. I have only been able to get lights on constant with the door open. I need to figure out the map light wire. I don't want to open the door or turn the headlight ****. I can't even get the compas to light up.
Did you pin map it by chance ?

I have the pin out somewhere in my garage for that XJ plug. The plug is red with 4 wires. I believe it is 1 for constant, 1 for switched and two for the temp sensor.
The ZJ console though connects the temp sensor to the body computer.
