Default Just another fuel pump question...

So, my 92 XJ sat for over a year. (2 jobs, no time, burnt forest with no access) I tried starting and no fuel. It makes a fuel pump noise for about 2 seconds and then clicks off. The noise seems quieter than a standard Cherokee fuel pump. Shorter time too. Anyway, then I moved. Put on the custom towbar and now I'm working on it again after another 3 weeks. Pulled the hose off of the fuel filter and dropped it below the tank bottom and there was fuel in the hose but just half a cup or so. With the hose strategically placed, I turned the key back on hoping that something would come out. It did not. It did however, still make the noise inside the tank. Kind of a clluuuunnnnnnnnnnggggump. Turn the key off, turn the key on, it does it again. Stops after 3 or 4 times. Leave the key off for 15 seconds. Does the same thing. But, no fuel. I realize that I've got to pull the tank but is anyone heard of this or experienced it? Maybe a breakdown of a hose and it's just not picking fuel up or something collapsed or who knows. I'm on very low budget. Social security only, after a forced medical retirement of sorts. So the budget doesn't have room right now for a high quality Bosch 69302. Any opinions or advice is appreciated. I have more time than money right now so I'm hoping there might be some quick fix or cheap fix... Or both in one fix.
Thanks

The fuel pump motor may be working , but not the impeller. Sounds like you may need a new fuel pump.

If you removed the fuel filter from the equation with your hose diagnosis, (assuming you did) I think it's going to need a fuel pump. Noise coming from the pump doesn't mean the pump is functioning properly.

Yeah this!
I bought a new one from Summit, and the motor turned, but no fuel.
