Slurry of Codes

Freeze Frame

He told me this jeep just had a slightly low oil pressure so I had him replace the oil pump for me. I also noticed theres a new oil pressure sending unit so I'm wondering if he just changed that and said he changed my oil pump because he finished suspiciously fast. I say that to say that he may not have been completly honest about what all could be wrong with it. He also said my bearings looked fine and that the engine has a light tapping but it goes away after it warms up. So I figured it would be a good project jeep for 2500 and bought it. On my way home the engine starts running rough as hell and these are the codes I had by the time I finally parked it. I thought I was just dealing with a P0171 code but apparently there is a whole lot more going on than I was told. I cranked it up this morning and its spitting unburned fuel out of the exhaust. I'm guessing an 02 sensor could be bad but in afraid it has a clogged or burnt catalytic converter because I heard that could cause p0171 as well. I took a screenshot of what popped up on the OBD 2.

What program do you have that says the fix for multiple misfires is to replace valve springs? Certainly not where I'd start.

that's just the app for the cheap obd2 I bought, I mostly just ignore those suggestions but I figured posting all the information I have was the way to go. I noticed its spitting black liquid out of the exhaust which I'm assuming is unburned fuel. My next step I believe I should do is probably get a volt meter and check the 02 sensors to make sure they're not the culprit.

Where to begin..
How much are you willing to invest in this ride- time, diagnostics, money?
Your code is one thing. The other thing : the fact its a new-to-you vehicle from a possible shady mech and probably little if any history on maintenance, places you in a position you need to assume nothing and check and go over everything.
Literally, from a bad ground or bad spark plugs to a cracked head and everything in between can cause this.

Does it have the original (0331) head?

Pull plugs and inspect. Check compression. Pull full injectors inspect and test. Inspect oil and antifreeze.

That would be a neat trick.

Yup.

This is a much better idea:

Probably antifreeze.

Google "0331 head crack".

Yea, I figured it was a crock after the excitement of getting a new jeep to play with wore off. Should have taken everything that man said with a bag of salt.

ok, I'll check that out. I'm a newbie when. It comes to these kinds of things but I'm willing to learn. I wonder if that could cause the slight engine tap noise im hearing before it warms up.

I'll be sure to do that as well while I'm tracking down possible issues.

Low oil pressure is rarely (i.e. never) the oil pump. Cam, rod, and crank bearings cannot be inspected without disassembling the engine.

Where are you located? Is the Jeep rust free and otherwise in good shape? This is what will dictate if the Jeep is worth performing any heroics upon to get a $2500 Jeep sorted.

The crack leaks coolant into the oil. So not likely to go out the exhaust, but a lot of coolant in the oil will eat away at the bearings.

Often but not exclusive:

Regardless, this needs to be fully vetted.

During inspection you're going to need to drain fluids. I'd look in the antifreeze for signs of Bar's or Ball's sealant.

As well as milky oil.
