Streaming data doesn't show a stft and the SHRTFT items show in percentpercentages.

Checking the old thermostat with an ir thermometer was a bit of a challenge. When I adjusted it to under 50 emissivity everything started working out. Probably cleaned it up more than really needed.

The water and flange were at 212ish for a bit before the center got to 195, but that's when it opened. Didn't immerse the whole thing in water, had it sitting up on end with water up to the flange.

But the rain came so this will have to wait till tomorrow.

And gee whiz, there's a wee little pigtail at the back of the valve cover. Guess that could be the sender that is agreeing with everything else.

Yes... that wee bugger sounds like the one... Driver's side, waaaaaaay in the back, tiny with a single wire (I believe) coming off it...

Original thermostat working like what I am used to. Goes up to 217 on stream data, then back under 210. Staying in that range. No leaks no issues.
It did suck a bunch of fluid from overflow, so if there is a next time might as well just fill it before starting the engine.

To be clear, you are now running in the "proper" temp range where the needle sits a hair or 2 to the left of the 210 mark on the gauge?

If so, I wonder if my temp sending unit or gauge is flaky... that seems more likely than 2 wonky t-stats in a row or a fake Mopar part... I may have to get of my butt and pick up an IR thermometer and see....

Yes, the needle sitting straight up kissing the 210 mark is how it was from when I bought it in new September 1996 with 45 miles on it, until I replaced the radiator and thermostat in November 2019.

Just for reference, my ‘95 has the sensor by the thermo & the sensor in the back of the head near the firewall. My gauge is running close to the first mark left of center since cool weather arrived. I’ve been considering replacing the thermo since I’m also getting about 14 mpg and used to get 20-21 constantly.
