Key Fob
Ok guys... I have a 96 XJ with keyless entry. I have hunted and searched everywhere for info but cant find the answer. So here goes. Is there a key fob that will interchange with the old one on my keyless entry system. My old fob died. It's almost impossible to find a new one and I would have to cut off my arm and leg for it. Is there any that will interchange?

I am in a similar situation. I just picked up a new to me 2001 and was given 2 fobs. 1 works fine, the other does nothing. Of course tried new batteries, still nothing. Best I have read, has to be dealer programmed. I would be interested in what you find out on your's.

I still have the owners manual with full instructions on how to program the fob. If you need that information I can post it so everyone has it. ?

From my understanding, the earlier models with Keyless entry were indeed Owner programmable. The later models were not. I have the owners manual on this one as well, and it says nothing about reprogramming the fobs.

Did some research and there is a way,(open door , close door ,turn on key, etc........) but nobody could get it to work. So this guy went out to the dealership and they programmed it for free. I doubt that though .
