Not looking at them they just want to be prepared. If it was flex plate would the knock get quiter or stay the same?

Yep. Check the flexplate bolts before doing anything else. Studies have shown that more Jeeps get fixed out in the garage or driveway with tools and flashlights than they do at desks using monitors and keyboards.

Haha good one but I'm using my phone.

Its had to get a chance to get dirty when I have to get up at 4am and get home at 4pm plus two younguns age 2 and 4 months but I'll let you know what I fine out.

Also many main question I'm still seeking an answer for is if it is the flexplate bolts would it quiet down after warming up?

Only one way to find out...

And, did you change the filter first as suggested?

I was wondering the same thing.

As for it quieting down after warming up, mine does.

None of many local parts store carry wix filters. What's second best to go with?

Waste of time exploring anything further until that's done. Don't you think?

O'Reilly's carries them. NAPA Gold is a Wix. Mopar filters on a non-Renix. Walmart carries Mopar.

Some have said that a Motorcraft FL1-A fits non-Renix motors but don't take my word for it. Research that one before using.

Still haven't got the chance to check the flexplate or change oil and filter.

My buddy came over today to look at it. After I started out and gee listened to it he thinks it's a rod knocking.

No need to change the oil, just the filter.

Loose flexplate bolts sound just like a rod knock so you're no further along with your buddy's diagnosis.

So today I'll have some free time to change out the filter see if that helps then check flexplate bolts.

I found a 4.0 from a 97 Cherokee how much different is it from mine which is a 01?
