Can I upgrade my stock gas tank, which I think is only 13 gallons, to the 22 gallon tank found on most 4.0L XJ's? I would think it would be a direct bolt on and just hang a little lower or be wider. Anyone ever heard of this? I can't find anything with the search feature...

I thought all XJ tanks were the same, 18 gallon. I could be misinformed..

Maybe you're right, I've found several tanks online but most retailers don't list the tank size...

Most of the earlier XJs are 13.5 gallon tanks and the later models are 20 gallon. The tank strap bolts are long enough to accomodate a larger tank, but I'm not sure if the pickup tube in the tank is long enough for the deeper tank.

Yah some of the 87s had "special" tanks 13.5 gallons. Mine does also, I'm gonna put a 20gallon in withe the 20 gal sending unit

The early XJ came with the small tank and the 20 gallon was an option. I personally haven't seen the small tank yet.

i ran accross this mod once it says ya get 23 gal out of it and up to 400 miles a tank
