its the 21st century plus some.....does anyone make wiper arms that you can lift up and stow for a snowstorm, like almost any other car in the world...its an 01 but it works the same as my old 92..they come up 3 inches and that's it..thanks

I dimly remember seeing a thread on this years ago where one guy replaced the Cherokee wiper arms with the arms from a Ford Ranger, and it worked fine. If you search on that you might turn up something.

Well I have 2 bad ideas and one more that I read about but did not care for.

Wipers from a TJ will go right on and lift up. That was the one I read about.
What I did not like is cause the arm is different it kinda sits higher up on the windshield.
It annoyed me. But it might be one of those things that after awhile you don't even notice anymore.
I thought I had some pictures from when I mocked this up but either don't or can't find them.

My first bad idea is to take the arm of an XJ and put it on the TJ hinge.
Going to drill out that rivet, try to release the spring, reattach the XJ one, and hook up the spring again.
When I try this I expect this to be very interesting. LOL

My other bad idea is to trim a little on a XJ wiper arm.
Wondering if you were to open that gap up in the circle on the left if the arm would clear the hinge.
And let you fold it all the way up.

Took me a second to find it but I remember you saying that before.
And said I happened to be going to the boneyard and would see what I could see.
Well the only Ranger they had that day was an '00.
Will not work.
The knurled part, part of the wiper transmission that sticks out of the cowl that the wiper arms go on, are really big on a Ranger.
Like maybe as much as 1" in diameter.
So maybe older or newer body style ones would but.....
It appears 1998 to 2011 is the run of the 2000 body style.
I went to Napa online and it appears that '97 to '11 do take the same wiper transmission so......

Why not buy a cover to cover the windshield? You can leave the wipers where they are. There are covers with straps that hook onto the side view mirrors, and some have a flap that covers the cowl area. My uncle uses one on his F150. I use one on the Mustang. They work. I can use the one for the Mustang on the XJ, but its a bit small. Its better than nothing tho.

Lovely day here in Arizona. One foot of snow yesterday, another foot on the way. Here are my stock wiper arms up on my '96. Just lift the arm as high as it will go, pivot the wiper blade until vertical and rest the end of the wiper on the windshield. Mine have yet to fall down.

A bit South of Prescott and 1000' higher in elevation. I moved back into this region after a long stretch Central TX. Maybe we waved to each other as we passed in opposite directions

Those are good, but there are a lot of ways a wiper arm that stays up is a very nice thing to have.

I was looking for the thread I saw the other day on this same topic..and learned something about my XJ that I didn't know I had for the last 4 years...
In one of the pics above of the wiper mount itself.... that little tab next to it... if you lift the wiper and then gently yet firmly pull that tab.. it will lock the wiper in a position off of the windshield/screen.
That tidbit is courtesy of Boxburn.... he's the one that posted it over there.... good on him
I never would've thought to mess with that thing... just thought it was part of the wiper arm.

I personally don't mind the TJ wiper arms mentioned in the link above on my 94. They sit a little higher up on the windshield but I'm tall enough that they'd never impinge on my view.

I never really understood why people want to leave the wipers up.

I would agree with fb97XJ1 as far as a cover for the windshield that also covers the wipers.
Either that or use some disposable plastic bags that you would get at a big box / grocery store, to keep all the snow / ice from building up on the wipers themselves.

Makes it a lot easier to clean the windshield, for starters. In snow & ice, it's brain-dead easy to lift the wipers. No fumbling around with a cover.

BoxBurn was correct...lift up on the wiper..pull that little tab out and release wiper..holds it 5 or 6 inches up...30 years ive been *****in about jeep wipers...who would have known. Thr right wiper is a little difficult since its in the middle
