Lifters Scratched on Delivery
Hi, I'm in the process of a top end rebuild. This is my first Cherokee as well as my first top end rebuild and I just received my new lifters. When I opened the box, the lifters were all just in a plastic bag, which felt like a red flag right off the bat. I opened it and examined them and some of the lifters have scratches on the outside. They aren't deep gouges, but I'm wondering if it's even worth it to hang onto these or should I just go through the hassle of the return process and get some better ones. Any help is appreciated, I've attached pictures of a couple of the lifters here.
Thanks,
Max

If you can I would return them and get a another set , If you can't then I would take 1000 grit wet dry sand paper and lightly sand the scratches out .

My thought is that if the manufacturer/seller didn't care enough to package them separately what else didn't they care about.
I don't know where you got yours but there are places that sell them for$2.50 each. When you figure retail mark-up, shipping (on a ship no doubt) and manufacturer profit that leaves about 25 cents for machining, heat treating, and..... QC.
In any case I would send yours back. I have no idea where to get them, these days unless I knew they were bad I would have probably used the old ones.
If those things wipe themselves or the cam out the scrap metal will take out the rest of the engine.

Not in my engine, send the junk back, find another seller, one that does not need a tutorial on how to package precision ground metal parts. I have sent back lifter sets for same issue. Ask any good cam grinder and he will tell you to not use them. that is a bearing surface, and it is buggered up.
