The liftgate on my 89 Cherokee has been shaking lately at highway speeds causing a rhythmic bumping sound. I read a few posts stating that you are able to adjust the latch assembly, however the screws on mine are seated into a steel plate and wouldn't really allow it to move. The screws would just reseat themselves and pull it back to where it was. What i've found is that the rod/pin that the latch locks to has a good sized notch worn in it from the shaking. I figure if i turn it around to where the good side is it'll have enough to hold onto without shaking. The only problem is getting it off. Its held on by 2 larger sized torx screws. I ruined a cheap bit trying to get them out, they seem to be rusted in place. Any suggestions for getting those things off, or just an alternative fix to this problem? Thanks for your help.

they sell torx bits that will go on your ratchet driver. theyre a bit pricey but with all the torx bolts on an xj theyre worth it. i have yet to bend twist or break one yet. i think theyre the kobalt ones from lowes. theyre better than the regular screwdriver type torx cuz you can put more wrench force into it. good luck

I bought a set of TORX sockets from home deopt fro $15.00 they work great not like the cheap china ones you pick up for 5 bucks you will like thease pritty tough
and you should trplace the stricker "pin" plate that will fix your problem i done it a few years ago for my dad he picked up the part at my local jeep dealer
