Steck MFG makes and sells tons of door opening products, even lock pick kits. For $10 or less you can have a non-marking wedge that is made for opening car doors. For $30 or less you can have an inflatable wedge to go with the solid non marking one, and it expands via a hand pump just like one you'd find at a DR's office for checking blood pressure.
Steck also sells bendable rods, and kits that include lots of gear.
If you've got a bit of cash to spend, it'd be a decent thing to look into. Unless you lock this in your car, too.

the door frame on the 90 model isn't meant to flex out with a pump wedge.
besides, unless you have power locks, the manual lock is very hard to move with just a wire makeshift tool or coat hanger.
you need to go through the window strip along the top of the door just above the door handle, then use a grab tool (T19) to grab the lock rod and slide it forward.
best thing is to do as said and pull out the rear hatch glass. it's actually very easy to remove.
or, just flag down a tow truck driver and slip him 20 to get it open with the proper tools and experience.

Just call the police and have them open it. They do unlock peoples doors for free. Or be a man and break the window. Like the guy said they are replacable.

Call your car insurance agent and see if you have a "towing option" or I think they list it as "emergency road side assistance" on the your insurance. In my state they frequently add it on - $1.50 for $40 worth and $3.5 for $80 worth (per 6 months). I just call a locksmith / wrecker and have them unlock it and submit the receipt for reimbursement.
I have also been known to shove a fedex envelope into the crack and stuff file folders into it then use a coat hangar or the antenna on the car to hit the electric locks. I have also wrapped electrical tape around the top of the antenna and used it to push the manual lock open when I had a dead battery. The electrical tape give the antenna a little extra when pushing the manual lock open.

Once you get it open, use a hide-a-key. I've been wheeling for years and have never knocked one off and it sure is nice to have a spare key when you are in the middle of nowhere.

According to the department, they are NOT illegal, as long as you are not doing anything illegal with it. Even if you aren't a tow truck driver or a police officer.
What he said, if you are carrying around any of your day to day tools, any one of those could be considered a "burglary tool" and they could arrest you. Bolt cutters, a hammer, even a coat hanger could be considered one. But you have to be doing something illegal WITH them
If you do have one, and you and your friend are trying to get into your friends car, all you'd have to do is show that its his car, and you aren't tyring to steal it. This could be done simply by showing ID and the officer looking up your plate number or VIN.
The officer is also giving me a call back pretty soon, I'll make sure to get his name and badge number.
Basically what it boils down to, as long as you aren't a shady person trying to do something wrong, you won't have anything to worry about.
And that is straight from the department.

hey man....been there and done that!...and helped others in distress!....mostly successful.....try this (unless there is a security plate over the door lock mechanism)....
1. locate a hanging file folder, strip out one of the flat hanging rods (has a perfect hook in it for this purpose!)....wrap some tape about 4" up one end or wear some gloves to protect your palms/fingers...
2. slip the rod between glass and molding just above the door lock...
3. place a finger on the door lock key hole and feel the rod touching it (may have to put a slight bend in the rod - like the shape of the door)...hook the rod on the door lock rod...there is a perpendicular rod that connects to a horizontal rod...you're looking for the perpendicular rod on the other side of the key hole...
4. keep your finger on the key hole while pushing down/pulling up on the rod firmly but gently....
5. you should feel the lock pop...when the rod is pushed/pulled in the correct direction....obviously, don't push/pull again since it will lock, again!....
6. grab handle, push button, open door!
good luck!

on my old 90 xj i had back in high school i used to lock my keys in there at least once a month till i finally learned...the molding on the back window can verrrry easily be pushed in at one of the corners with a flat head and then you finagle it up the window and along the side till the window comes right out...goes in the same way... just be easy with the molding because it can rip
