lockers

From what I know you'll be fine, as long as your not a throttle jocky kinda wheeler. I've heard of guys running 37s on a D30, and there fine, with some finesse. I have also heard that guys have blown D30s with 31s, so I say go for it!! I plan on putting 35s on mine with the next tire purchase. I guess if it breaks, I'll know where my weak spot is and UPGRADE!!

I have ran 35's to 38's on mine in the past. No problems. It really boils down to how you drive. I dont drive overly cautious either, but dont jump my rig and stay in the gas, start hopping let off the pedal with that said you should be fine. I have been wheelin for 15 year hard.

As stated it matters greatly on how hard you wheel. I have a buddy who runs 36's on 3.55 gears with lockrights but he lets off the gas whenever he gets up in wheel speed. I have another buddy who wheels his with 35's and he is on his 3rd set of u-joints in a year. He is also on his second motor due to hard wheeling. I've never had much faith in D30's running 35's becuase I will let the wheel speed get up and will most likely cuase a broken u-joint or shaft with the way I wheel. My opinion for D30's are running 33's locked and 35's open. The lockright will hold the 35's though no problem there. It's just the axle it's self that may give you the problems. Just make sure you get off that gas if the wheel starts hoping.

unless your planning on putting a D44 in the front too, i'd leave the front D30 open, especially with 35's, just from everything else i've read, have just the rear D44 locked should be more than enough with that gear ratio and tire size to get you out of just about anything, plus putting lockers in the front regardless of tire size or axle will still be hard on the vehicle on the road, just my opinion.

Lockrights are pretty good about staying open till you put it in 4wd. But as I said in the past year my friend has gone through 3 sets of u-joints driving on the road. I second the opinion of running open front and locked rear if your running 35's. Others will disagree but without seeing you wheel that would be the safe bet. Also I have seen several situations where if didn't have a front locker you aren't going anywhere. My plan is to run a D30/D44 combo 4.56 gears and lockrights front and rear on 33's. I won't have as much ground clearance but I feel I can safely run a front locker with out it being broken every trip. Also don't dump money into a D30 if you plan on going to 35's. It is cheaper to get a D44 front and build it than adding things like cromo's to a D30.

I concur with COS. Don't be Captain "Nail It" at every obstacle and you'll be fine. If you've never 4wheeled with lockers before. You're gonna find that most obstacles that you had to kind of into it to get over or through before. With your added traction you won't need to do that anymore, anyway.

how so? are you talking LP44 (waggy 44) and keeping the width of the new axle? or getting a HP44 and shortening it? def cheaper to build the 30 IMHO.
