Default Looking for EGR Pipe for a 1987 4.0?

It's in the shape of a Z and has a big threaded fitting on each end. Goes from the exh manifold to the intake/EGR. Does anyone sell these? Thanks!

Probably going to have to have someone fabricate one for you. Chances of finding one in a boneyard are rare as hen's teeth. Or rooster teeth for that matter, LOL! Try some industrial hydraulic shops.

BTW, did you check with Lucas for copyright for that avatar? Just kidding.

I was wondering how long it would take before I got that response. You don't understand emissions. I don't want crappy performance.

Hopefully I can braze what I have. Thanks!

Is it the same EGR pipe that was used on the 258? Description sounds about right but of course that doesn't mean it's the same part. I have a spare new one left over from my old AMC Eagle that I'll probably never use. It's a dealer part, maybe still available? Mine I think is still in the bag with the part number sticker on it. (Can't check it right now, it's out in the garage and I'd get too much flack from She Who Must Be Obeyed if I go out there this time of night. )

Thanks a bunch for responding. I can take a picture of it tomorrow. Let's see. I'm soaking it in acid right now to 'eat' the rust off ...see if I can repair it.

I did a quick web search and it looks like the EGR tube I have is specific to the 258 used in Jeeps from 1981-1986. (Also used in AMC cars.) Morris 4x4 center carries it. I couldn't find one for the 4.0.

Why would you get crappy performance? All egr does is make your engine less efficient, later models don't have it.

Engines without an EGR valve usually achieve the same effect through carefully calculated valve overlap.

Back when EGR valves were first introduced around 1973 they were poorly integrated into the engine and caused performance and driveability problems. It was common back then to disconnect them. As time progressed, and particularly as electronic controls became available, the EGR was better integrated and designed into the engine as a complete system. Running without it can potentially cause problems, particularly detonation since compression ratio, combustion chamber shape, and ignition timing are designed with the idea that the EGR will be cooling combustion temperatures. So it's something you might get away with, but it might also cause problems.

See the following for some detailed information on EGR:

If I had a dollar for every EGR I've deleted on a 4.0..........

No performance issues at all.

That said, I have a few of those EGR pipes for $25 each plus shipping. From Arizona!!!

Sorry guys, I was away. (work)

Thanks a bunch for the offer. I left it soaking in acid while I was gone. Cleaned up pretty well. I'm going to see how it brazes up. It's just cracked along the weld seam, so should braze up ok I'd think if I use a delicate touch. We'll see. If that doesn't work I'll definitely be contacting you.

Cheers!
