It's just photos of intake manifolds with EGRs mounted to them.

For much of california, to pass smog in a pre obd cherokee you need the tail pipe dyno test, and the visual test which includes seeing the egr stem activate under vacuum. now even with a dead egr you may still pass the tail pipe dyno test if you have a new three way catalyst installed, but you still need to pass the visual test too.

Did you test for vacuum at the egr valve itself or at the transducer? The transducer will vent vacuum unless there's enough backpressure from the exhaust to close it.

Sorry for the poor image.



If you're careful, you can disassemble the transducer and inspect and clean the innards. Just note the orientation of the ports relative to the EGR valve.

I failed once because I didn't have the "preheat" hose that comes off the exhaust manifold to the front of the air cleaner. OK, that was not the only issue that time, but I was told to replace it before I come back for retest. It was noted as "TAMPERED" on the visual inspection portion.
