I just read all 13 pages of this post and I am dying to hear what is happening! I have exactly the same problem on my 89 and I have tried almost everything the OP has and I still have the low idle/stalling problem.

I don't know if I should start a new thread when everything has already been said here.

Thanks for all the amazing information!

My .02, start new, (You can link to this thread). It's plenty tough/confusing with just one poster, already! You might list what you checked/changed. Welcome, and good luck!

I'm going to pull the manifold off and check the gaskets there and see how clean it is inside there. Other then that I have no clue.

I got one for you BD. Just try un-pluging the 02 sensor. It "variable-grounds" the 5v feed from the ECU to tell it the 02 level. I found mine had failed completely, not grounding it at all. It might have been like that a year.....low mileage and a cycleing idle waz the only problem, ran fine otherwise. Easy enough to simply unplug it to duplicate how mine was.
If the sensor, or it's wire were grounding that 5V, that might jack something up.. (from the sensor, that's the grey wire, opposite the red 12v heater power).

You might go ahead and check your CTS while you are down there..

I haven't gotten to check the o2 sensor yet, df. This is how my engine looks currently. Is there anything I should check while I have the room?

The rearmost stud in the head is OK? Motor mount OK? Fuel flex line to the rail OK? Clean and inspect/paint freeze plugs.....Idk...

Great time to make sure the engine mount is good. The studs on the exhaust manifold are OK, that rear on mine was an issue. ....Do be sure to paint something on the injector heat shield that Cruiser can yuk about in later photos!

I give a rat's *** about what anyone says. Any intake manifold gasket gets a thin layer of blue RTV on both sides, around where vacuum leaks could happen. What's above "thin" will squeeze out one not help anything, anywhere. A very thin layer.

Didn't have blue RTV, had some Mega black laying around and it's the same. I just finished putting that bad mama jama together. So I will see what's what in the morning after the mega black dries

One time in really hot weather I had the black drying before I could even get whatever it was back together. Fingers crossed!

Great.... Now this SOB won't even turn over... I double checked everything and nothing is out of place. I think it's a lost cause.

What? Won't crank, or won't fire?

Got to be something simple. Map tube is on and good. CPS and Map are plugged in. If you depress the goodie on the pressure test valve it shoot's a little fuel into the rag you are holding there? Orange wires are on the ballast resistor.

If an engine has spark and fuel and won't fire, it may be flooded. If you hold the pedal solid on the floor, that will cut off injector pulse and provide max air to, help "un-flood" it.

What a bummer!..you will find it.

Yeah I did this to make sure that the air from the line was gone. It seems like a timing issue. Maybe when I get a second pair of hands I'll can get a better look in the bay.

Timing? Normally the timing is controlled by the computer. Did you change anything with the dizy or plug wires doing the manifold?
