Default Loose steering

Not for sure if this goes here but i have a 92 Cherokee Xj and my steering is not right. When i turn for an example going around a curve and any type of turning the steering wheel will turn a good bit before the wheels turn. Any suggestions on what would cause that? Someone old me to tighten the steering box and someone told me to replace the track bar. Ive been told not to tighten the steering box unless you absolutely have to. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Check all the steering components and make sure they are all in good condition.

Do not jump right to adjusting the steering box

Have someone saw the steering wheel back and forth while you look at all the joints in the steering under the Jeep and also the sector shaft. If all are tight, your steering box likely needs adjustment

examine it immediately..the steering box bolts are known to shear off !..when 2 break, its takes very little time for the last one to fail, and you have no steering

I have seen an XJ in a ditch cause of this. There was a recall on some years

Given the enormous potential for personal injury from a steering system failure and your obvious lack of experience with basic steering components, I would recommend you call a wrecker service and have it hauled to a reputable 4x4 shop and have it professionally repaired. What ever you do, DO NOT DRIVE it until it is repaired. I'm not trying to be harsh but this is not something you mess around with not knowing what you are doing.
