I just did the pump in my 2000 also about a month back. The silver part on top of the pump is the regulator. Its supposed to like block off fuel to the rail when you turn the jeep off. Holding fuel in the line. If its not working properly fuel will drain back into the tank. My new pump does this also. Turn the key on and off three times to fill the lines and build the pressure back up. It'll start first crank then
and with everyone saying I shouldnt let the gas get that low, I go to the gas station when the gas light goes on. that's how Ive always done it in the jeep and on the bike. ive ridden bikes that don't even have a gas gauge with only a light indicating low gas. I had 215k on the same pump, with about 115k with me owning it and about 70k before that my brother and him and I both always filled when the light comes on with no issues.

Yeah, Don't wait to fill the tank. My low fuel light comes on at 1/8th of a tank wich is about 2 - 2 1/2 gals. But if at all possible I never let it get that low.

well I wanted to give an update after a couple months of dealing with this. it seems that I Just got unlucky and got 2 bad bosch fuel pumps in a row. the company, although irritating at times, did help me in the long run and finally got me a new bosch pump that finally works and doesn't cut out on me. they were kind enough to pay for me to send the pumps back. hopefully I wont have to deal with this for another 220k miles lol

When I had a `98 GC Limited 5.9 it had the "bucking under WOT" problem.
Spent a bunch of time/effort replacing the fuel pump (same Carter factory pump from NAPA was 1/2 the price) , replaced the shift solenoid but turned out I already had the updated part in mine.
Neither resulted in a fix...it turned out to be electrical interference from the alternator (according to the experts) preventing the solenoid from providing an upshift , so it would hit the fuel cut-off over and over until you let up on the throttle.
Never did fix it...sold it.
Now my `90 XJ cuts out on hard turns unless I have at least 1/2 tank !
Checked all suggestions and NO , it doesn`t have loose steering column bolts or fuel line at the pump. It STILL does it. So not happy.
HEEEELP !

No...but it might be OK when stationary...hard to test in a turn.
You are right...pump probably weak.
Runs great even at WOT if enough gas in tank...even in a turn.
Never cuts out going straight , even low on fuel. Go figure.
