I think that my jeep has many many miles and that the ac has never been serviced lol... Or that clutch might be going out

it is normal.

it will also engage the compressor if you have your control on defrost, a/c or heat. it doesn't matter. this way the compressor keeps oiled during the winter months while you are defrosting your windshield.

it is nothing to worry about, carry on.
