Default low gas.all of a sudden 2001 jeep xj not firing.

I let the gas get really low yesterday lower than usual. the next morning i went to start it and it just would not fire. The battery and starter are both strong.i tested the fuel pump and filter and they are working fine it seems, because i can hear the fuel pump running when i engage the ignition and i have been able to bleed the fuel line under the hood by the throttle body. could someone tell me what else might be causing this? i now have a 1/4 tank of gas in it but still no avail.please help.

I would start by checking the fuel pressure on the fuel rail with a mechanical pressure gauge. You should have 49psi +or- 5psi. Just pushing the valve really won't tell you much other then there is fuel in the rail. You need to know if you have the right pressure. If you ran the tank down to low you could have plugged the screen with crud from the bottom of the tank. While you are checking things out make sure that you have a strong blue spark. Any other color can cause a hard and no start. That's where I would start. You can also find someone with a code reader and see if you have any stored codes.

Glad you got it fixed. That would have been my first guess.
