That truck makes me drool, Cruiser!
I'm taking the XJ out tonight for newspapers. Wish me luck.

Didn't your mother always tell you to take your boots off before coming into the house? The least you could have done is brush it off!

I brought it in to melt the snow off. I need to do a few things on it. Like a heater core....yuk.

Yeah, I know my limits. When I needed the heater core changed in my WJ, I took it to my professional mechanic buddy. Half way thru the install, I took some cash up to him and was scared ****less when I saw it laying in pieces! After all that work, the only things wrong were a footwell light that was loose and the glovebox door that needed adjustment to close easily. No squeaks, rattles, or electrical problems. That guy's good! THEN he tells me that was the first WJ he'd ever done!

UPDATE: No luck. Pulled the elbow off and cleaned everything. Put it all back together and refilled it with Rotella 15w40. Verified (again) with a mechanical guage and it's still dropping to nearly zero at warm idle. Oh well, it was worth a shot. At this point I'm just hoping it holds together until warmer weather when I can swap the engine.

There's got to be a simple answer to this low oil pressure with XJs. WJs don't seem to lack oil pressure, at least not any that I've seen. Could it be something about the way the oil pump is mounted or driven? With the "clean block" in the WJ, the oil pump is mounted internal to the oil pan and the filter and pressure sensor are on the main oil gallery for the lifters and feeds everything else. I mean they are driven the same, but the oil delivery is all internal without the passages outside to the filter adapter then back inside. I don't remember any problems with my 97 ZJ either, but I only had that for a year.
