I would bet he did. The worst thing Jeep done was to put in oil pressure gages, it worries the heck out of the common man!
Years ago when cars had idiot lights millions of people drove around with low oil pressure and did not even realize it.

Ha,ha for some people it was. I remember the owners manual describing the oil light "It is normal for light to flicker on in hot weather at idle or when coming to a stop".
Those idiot lights triggered on at around 2 to 4 psi.

Default Low Oil Pressure at Idle - Can I use thicker oil?

Thanks all. I did make it home with no vehicle related incidents. BTW, when the oil pressure dropped to zero and the check gauges light came on, the tapping noise in the engine got louder.

Now that I'm home, I'll figure out what I want to do with it.

Glad you made it but we all figured you would. Ive had the low pressure symptom for around 10k miles also have a tap/knock under light load starting about 2k rpms. I decided to live with it till she goes then decide on the next step reman, jy or stroker. 97 SE 288k all stock drivetrain. Love my noisy shaky go wherever you want to XJ.
