Low oil pressure update.
Thought I would do an update for those of you that might remember me.
I was getting low oil pressure reading on my 98 XJ. 8PSI at idle, 40PSI under load.
I just changed the sending until, cost about $20.01, OEM. My idle is now reading a steady 25PSI at idle, 45PSI - 50PSI under load. The old unit was not leaking, and the terminals were as clean as could be. I broke the little red clip, and the housing it was in. Being old and brittle, I tried to finesse it, didn't work. Luckily there's another clip that holds it on. After noticing it was clean, I got a little worried thinking it wasn't the problem. Well it was.
Thought I would share for others having this issue. Bad sending units can go both ways. Reading too high, or too low. When in doubt, replace it.
However i'm thinking my thermostat is stuck open because my XJ NEVER gets up to operating temps... Only hangs around 190'ish. Only time it hit 210 was doing some minor rock crawling, 50 yards up hill, on stock suspension... Yet another issue. Luckily all these parts are cheap.

Oil pressure sending units are a VERY common failure on the Jeep 4.0
I highly recommend buying this component directly from the Jeep dealer for the best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge.
Glad you got your issue resolved.....

Buying from a dealer would most likely be your best option for a lot of needed parts. I'll give you another update should this OEM unit fail.
I've used a lot of OEM parts, and have personally had no problems with them. On this occasion... I felt like saving another $25 dollars, and waiting around for a week to ship. Best option? Maybe not. Only time will tell.

180 is also not uncommon for my Jeep. At least where I live. I'm beginning to find a lot of my stock "senders" are beginning to fail. Oil pressure sender, CPS... So I'm not going to misjudge the temp sender as well. Will be getting a replacement.

Most 4.0 engines run in the 200-210 range. The stat does not control the maximum temperature that the engine will run, but does control when the stat will "open".
