Exclamation Major Braking Issues

Recently, I had the front rotors resurfaced and installed new brake pads. While it was at the shop (I supervised all of it), they blew out the rear brake shoes. All well and good. Well, I drive it home and I'm sliding to a stop and barely stopping on time. I was scared. So I assumed they just needed breaking in. Well, it's been two days and they haven't changed. I took it back to the shop and I was told there's nothing they can do. I mentioned bleeding he said it shouldn't need it. He really just is a know-it-all. Soooo..I left work tonight and had the brakes TO THE FLOOR and I almost slid out in the intersection.
So, my plan for tomorrow is with some family help, bleed the brakes, check to see if they're fixed. If not, tighten the rear shoes (which are somewhat worn but have some life in them).

Any help is greatly appreciated. I just want some feedback as to what may be the true problem or a better way of approaching the fix.

Default brakes

check and see if there is and fluid leaks under it and also check if the fluid level is where it should be

If you do not see any moisture from leakage, then bleed them front and back. if that does not work, try pulling on your emergency brake a little at a time and see if it helps,if it does then your rear shoes are out of adjustment. They did not do anything to the rear nrakes except blow them out right?

already checked 4 leaks. other than when i opened the cap (some dribbled out of course) there is no leaks. i had someone in my family whos good with cars drive it this morning and they said that it feels like they are manual brakes rather than power brakes. which makes sense cus it feels like my foot is the only thing stoppin them theres no locking power u just keep on sliding ya know.
so there is speculation as to the booster being bad. i'm just givin the feedback im lost as ever.

Are you sliding as in tires locked up or are you just rolling and have no brakes?

I had the same issue and the pistons were warped and not applying the correct pressure to the brakes.

i'm sliding as in tires rolling brakes suck. lol.

and yea..i dont think its that cus my brakes (which had very little pad on them) still worked SO much better than this BEFORE i had the new ones put on. soo...

but a close family friend test drove it today and said that the mechanic put very expensive brake pads on them and that it would take 200-300 miles for them to set properly. sooo.he suggested we take it back to the mechanic and demand cheaper brake pads.
any thoughts on this.. ever heard of this happening?
it sounds logical. but idk.. i just want my brakes back. i'm the type to roll as long as i can and then brake. and right now im having to put it in 3 gear to slow my speed..lol

Sounds like a bunch of bs to me. The brake shop should have done the job right and if there was something wrong with their work they should back it up.

Anyway do you have a hard brake pedal? Or is it spongy?

Or is the prob you have a hard pedal but the brake just don't wanna stop you?

I had that case once but the problem was I got brake fluid on my rotors and pads by accident. This prob ruined the pads but instead of replacing them I took them off and cleaned them. I used sand paper and sanded them down a bit and did the same to the rotors, then cleaned them with brake cleaner. After a couple stops they seemed to be working pretty darn well.

Maybe this is your prob?

just my experiance.....I put new shoes on the rear of my ford taurus...about 500 miles later the Right side wheel cylinder blew out....and was allowing the pedal to go to the floor....Needless to say i replaced BOTH wheel cylinders, brake shoes again and a new spring kit. Expensive brakes would only tell me they put ceramic pads on VS. semi-metalic. Remove the rear drums and look around.....brakes should not have to be bled for only changing front pads. you can manually adjust the rear with a brake spoon or just drive in reveres and pump the brakes real firm!!! your choice!

To be honest with you, your brakes should be working just fine when they left the shop, anything else is just an excuse. If I was you I would demand they make it right. This not your problem and they need to deal with it.

we intend to take it back to the shop. it IS unacceptable. and the funny thing is, the guy who owns the shop is my uncle.
but i have a hard pedal it just feels like its not enough friction to bring it to a stop. it just so happens that if you use all the strength in your legs and push it to the floor you can hold a stop lol.
shouldnt be any brake fluid because i watched them resurface the rotors and put it all back on clean and it's been the same since i got it.
so yes its goin back to the shop.

and yes it is B.S. =)

So after everything I had all 4 brakes put on. My problem with it is that it won't lock if you know what I mean. Say you're on the interstate and somebody locks up. If I lock up it slides for a good few seconds before it stops. Also, when you brake a little hard it sounds like air is pushing out somewhere near the brake pedal. But it's always done that. So basically, it stops but for all new brakes it should be turning me on my head. Any ideas?

What type & year Jeep? When your braking hard what happens with the steering wheel does it turn left or right? Also while braking hard does it lock any wheel or pair? Do you have ABS?

i have a 1994 jeep cherokee SE. nothing really happens it just dont happen like it should so to speak. nothing locks. and like in driveways and parking lots you have to push them hard to get it to stop. its like theres just not enough pressure on them or the (new) pads suck or something idk. thats the problem. like for instance if something ran out in front of me and i had to lock up there would be no stopping suddenly. no ABS that i know of. see before i took it the shop (one of my uncles shop) it was fine. and i think he put like really expensive brake pads on the front (as well as he resurfaced the rotors). the rear brakes are also new but they were done by someone else who did them right. so i was just going to put a cheaper pair of pads on the front because it seems to me they dont have enough friction/stick. im thinkin my uncle put some pads on there that just aren't what my jeep needs.. the pads he put on (from what i figure) are about $75 bucks.
sooo i hope that helps..

mine hissed like that too and eventually i ended up without power brakes, i grew to like the stiff pedal, that was just me though
