I second this. You get what you pay for, and cheap oil filters should be avoided like a PLAGUE. Wix makes excellent quality filters, and they're worth every penny. Same goes for Napa (made by Wix) and Baldwin.

To be honest I had no idea Ryco were so poor. All they stock around here are Ryco and Fram. Lesson learnt.

Where do you live? No Napa around? O'Reilly's?

I normally order Wix filters from a couple of internet sources, which keeps the cost below $5-bucks per unit if you order a Master Case. Sadly, I have nothing good to say about local Auto Parts stores either --most stock cheap junk, no matter what you're buying.

I source decent air filters from http://www.discountfleetsupply.com/wix46077.html.

I use the long Wix 51515 filters for the 4.0 for about $3-bucks a pop, at http://www.discountfleetsupply.com/wix51515.html. They have double the filteration media, flow better, have the same ADV specs as 51085's, and they're inexpensive.

(If you like the shorty 51085's, they're here too at http://www.discountfleetsupply.com/wix51085.html)

Always buy 6+ at a tme (Master Case) to save money and shipping charges. At $3.xx per filter for the good stuff, why would anyone want Fram junk???

Advance Auto Crap is now selling a house brand oil filter made in China. Wanna save a few dollars and buy this filter?

At a local parts store yesterday. They had the various filters on the counter, all cut apart. Wix, Napa, Baldwin, Napa are for sure good. Fram and other no-names are not worth the risk.

I am in full agreement. Times are tough and money's tight, but installing garbage parts on a Jeep that must remain a trusted, reliable tool is way out of line. I've cut a few oil filters apart, and you would NOT BELIEVE some of the cheap, Chinese JUNK that gets labled as "Premium Quality" filtration.

Wix still makes great quality filters. No cardboard end caps or rubber bands holding cheap paper media together here. Anti-drainback valves are still made the old-fashioned way and everything inside is made of plated steel - no plastic or paper junk, and are mfd. in Gastonia, NC, U.S.A. as well. Worth every penny and then some.

Yep. Wix or Napa Gold and you can't go wrong.

See what's on the 4.6 stroker I'm putting together? Napa Gold.

That's cool! How did you make the aluminum show through on top?

Sand off the paint with a sanding block.
