Default Mark the converter and drive plate location

I'm doing an engine swap and am to this point...

(32) Vehicles with Automatic Transmission:
(a) Mark the converter and drive plate location.
(b) Remove the converter-to-drive plate bolts.
(33) Remove the upper flywheel and converter
housing bolts and loosen the bottom bolts.
(34) Remove the engine mount cushion-to-

I feel kinda dumb but I'm just not understanding what I'm supposed to be marking here. Does anyone know of a pic of what I'm supposed to be marking? I mean it seems to me if you line up the bolt holes you are aligned - not getting the purpose of marking and therefore know I'm missing something.

I think this is advising you to mark the torque converter and flexplate relative to the crankshaft so that when you are moving the engine into place it will align properly.

I thought that at first too, but then I have to spin the crank to get to the flexplate bolt so that no longer made sense to me either...

If it's a balanced rotating assembly, it (flex plate/TC) will remain balanced on re-assembly. Don't worry about it, you probably won't spin that up to 13k anyways, lol.

The bolt pattern on the flex plate only lines up all the bolts in 1 position. The pattern is not symetrical.

Marking (scribe a line) the crank flange and the flexplate makes re-assembly a lot easier.

But this is an engine swap according to the OP, I don't think this flex plate will ever see that old crank flange again.

It doesn't matter. They're only trying to make lining back up of the torque converter to flexplate bolts easier later. I do believe they will only line up one way.

Thanks guys - I think I had a bad assumption that the holes were symmetrical, which made the whole thing seem a bit unnecessary. Spray paint applied
