Max tire size for stock XJ with 15" wheels
Hey everyone, I have a 2000 XJ sport stock, and I am looking to buy new tires. I have 15" wheels and 16" wheels. I was wondering what is the largest tire size I can put on those without fender rub. Also, I will be lifting it in the very near future (a month or 2) 3 inches. Will this size tire still look good or will it appear small?
Thanks for the input.

Just an example using General Grabber AT2's:
265/70R15 = 29.6"
30X9.5R15LT = 29.8"
245/70R16 = 29.5
255/70R16 = 30.1
I'm running LT235/75R15 AT2's (29.1") on a stock suspension that's in good shape and I've had no rubbing issues in any situations I've encountered so far.

Wait till you lift then buy tires, dont do it *** backwards. Anything you can fit on now will look pretty off when your 3" higher, I run 31s at 3" but wish I wouldve gone with 33s or bigger. But now that yoour going to be sizing up, fender rub wont be your biggest issue just trim them, but you will run you LCA's at full lock running stock wheels so youll want to either get new wheel with more offset, buy spacers, or adjust your steering stops, (easiest and free). Use this chart for conversions, looks like a 30 would be a couple different sizes depending on width http://tire-size-conversion.com/metric-tire-conversion/

Need to look through the XJ lift/tire thread over in Cherokee Chat. Personally for a 3 inch lift I like 31s or 32s. Wouldn't go any smaller than 30. Also back spacing may start coming into play when you get up to the 31 and 32s. Not sure how much but that something you may want to look into.

My front springs are not total trash, (like my rears). With 235's my front just rubs a tad cutting it hard. The rear will rub bad on bumps if I don't have the air shocks up. They are close to 28-1/2 inches. I'd need to do suspension work to go any bigger.

Nice rigs guys, way to make me jelly
Anyway, Im about to buy my new tires, Im looking at 245/75/16 COOPER DISCOVERER AT3.. Those are 31's? Or no? Idk.. they look great and are perfect for my budget.

Yeah, good advice. Those 16's are going to rub horribly until you lift it.
You might cut one up and/or do body damage on your Jeep.
You're putting the cart before the horse. If you're just dying to spend your tax refund now, lift it first.

But even before lifting I would make sure you dont have a D35 in the rear, and if so swap it out for a 8.25.
