I'm 99% sure the VIN tag is riveted onto part of the Jeeps body (firewall metal), it wouldn't come off with the dash.

MMM...Maybe. That would make sense. Still, I just want out and jiggled/reefed on my dash a bit and could get the tag go move a little along with the vinyl.
NE14. Maybe go back in and simply ask them? Maybe there is a simple explanation?

Took to him 2 replace alt, shocks, harmonic balancer gasket, reseal my fuel tank, oil change, and tune up, also my oil pan plug [screw] was stripped and i ask him 2 c if he could fix that or either i wanted the oil pan replaced. When i picked my jeep up, I had to try it 3 times before it started then it acted like there was water or trash in the gas. His dad asked me if it did that before I said no. He said he noticed after it warmed up that it would stop. I was thinking at the time how would you know that? I supplied the alt and shocks. He told me he didnt have 2 replace oil pan he fixed the plug. Yet I noticed he didnt change my oil or filter. Now how do you replace the oil plug w/o oil coming out and didnt think at time how he would replace a stripped plug. Also the 3 connectors on alt, only 2 were connected the other wasnt even put on it was just touching the screw. And I dont think he replaced my fuel tank seal because before I had fuel pump replaced few months prior by someone else who didnt seal the tank, when I would take my gas cap off you could hear it release. But, I was told omly way to know if seal was replaced is to drop the tank and see, I dont have the money 2 do that. He charged me 628.14.Also, I noticed That my splash guards are missing and the plastic piece that is up under the front of jeep that protects the lights and i had a piece that covered the under part of all the stuff under my hood.

Also I know my dash was replaced because not only from the gap and the missing vent, I replaced the stock radio, w a deck, amp and sub woofers. I wired it my self. I had to buy one of those radio trim things that you slide the deck in and it keeps it in place while covering the opening on the sides. Had to screw it n 2 mount it, I screw on left and 1 on the right, the 1 on the left I tightened to much and split the tab at the bottom. It isnt split anymore and I cut the tabs off w scissors the best i could and then folded and twisted em till they come off. The tabs on that now have been cut clean. The remote wire is running up under the bottom part where the lighter and aux goes and my lighter stopped working so i bought another 1, but where it plugs in didnt match and i havent been able 2 find a lighter any where. so i decide to go ahead and plug the old 1 back up but it wouldnt plug in, the pattern is different. Now how the hell did that happen???

SO DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT PARTS HAVE CASTING NUMBERS ON THEM AND WHERE i CAN FIND THEM. IM GOIN TO THE POLICE AND PRESS CHARGES. ONLY REASON I HAVENT ALREADY IS BECAUSE I DONT KNOW IF WHAT I SHOW THEM WILL BE ENOUGH PROOF. nOW THAT I KEEP NOTICING MORE STUFF MISSING. IM JUST DISGUSTED. AND NO THERE WASNT ANOTHER JEEP UP THERE. I JUST KEEP WONDERING HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLES VEHICLES HAS HE DONE THIS TO THAT DIDNT NOTICE OR LIKE ME DID NOTICE BUT DIDNT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY FELT THEY COULDNT PROVE IT.

I did go and ask him. I asked him if he was the only 1 who worked on my jeep and he said he didnt no he thought so. I said well then maybe you can tell me why there is a gap between column and steering wheel and why i had a slide release and now it push in and why there was a gap where the dash should meet and also that my splash guard was missing. He said he didnt no why splash guard missing he didnt remove it. And told me that the dash and gap on steering come that way stock. I said no they didnt. I said well why is it i had a slide release and now it push button and he say the button right here. I said i know where the button is. That is the problem i didnt have button. He said are you accusing me of switching your column, i say no, im asking you why before i brought my jeep 2 u these things werent like this. I also asked him why i could just pull my key out w/o using lock release when i never could do that before and he put the key in n pulled it out and said my key was wore down. I said oh really well how bout this 1, pulled out my spare that i had 2 have made maybe 2 years at most ago, that 1 was wore down 2. I told him that i was going 2 have my jeep checked out and that i would be see him again. Had my daughter w me who is 18 so i would have a witness.

Is the Jeep registered to you? Compare the VIN on your registration to the VIN in the spot where DFlint showed in the picture he posted.
This mechanic (or one of the employees there) is obviously shady. I hope you get to the bottom of it. And once you do, I hope you never go back there

Funny, I just had mine apart two days ago. The VIN tag is riveted to the lower windshield support and it's virtually impossible to tamper with unless you remove the windshield... intentionally so.
