You measure across right at center level, front and back. Mine has a tie rod connecting the steering knuckles. You loosen the clamps and rotate the whole rod to screw it longer or shorter. Sory, I don't remember which tie-rod end has left hand threads. If you make the front reading 3/32-1/8 of an inch less than the rear that should do. I always double check after rolling it.

With a helper you can just use the tire tread and a tape, just be sure to measure from the same place on the tread.

Btw, you want to check for wear/slop on the rest before adjusting it! (TRE's) especially.
