Metal shield/padding in engine bay
Still working on my newly acquired XJ, some real scruffy looking metal padding is lodged in near my engine and I want to get rid of it.
Does it need to stay? Thanks

YES! That is a heat shield installed above the manifold to direct thermal energy from reaching the fuel rail and injectors. In fact that particular piece in my 2001 is beat up and ratty. Probably contributing to my heat soak issues in the dog days of summer.

Leave it or buy a new one. They are cheap. My Jeep dealership actually had it in stock. Pretty sure I paid less then $3 for it. I have posted about this many times with the part number but of course can not find any of them. I believe this to be the part number:
CBXCB060
I keep all my receipts so I can look up the one I bought if you need it. Just take a bit to go through them all. Get back to me if you do.

No problem. That was the part number. Found my receipt. Cost to me was $2.20 not including tax. I own an '00 which many people seem to have the heat soak issue with. I don't. Not that I ever noticed. Came across this in my travels:

If you are not having any heat soak issues then this would be a waste but if you are. I just liked the idea that it is a vehicle specific kit. I saved the link just in case heat soak issues did rear their ugly head.

Again glad to have helped. I understand the OCD thing you mentioned above. I replaced mine when I upgraded to 4 hole injectors. Also did a valve cover gasket, new PCV's, grommets, and the rubber on those lines. Not to mention I bought a new fuel rail. Did that because I have that stupid fuel damper on my '00. What people sometimes refer to as the flame thrower. It was one of those if that stupid thing starts leaking down the road I am going to be pissed I did not replace it in the first place. My '96 I used to own did not have one of those. Plus I got a new Mopar one pretty cheap. Not to mention the "Well while we are here might as well do ...." which explains the rest I did above.

Plenty of threads on that subject. Most people get them from boneyards, I want to say from Dodge Neons and Caravans, buy the ones that guys are selling here on the forums or ebay, or there are a couple sites that sell them too. Just make sure that they are the EV6/USCAR connectors. I believe older ones can be used but some rewiring would have to be done. Buy ones with those connectors and they are pretty much plug and play. I went a different route. As per the advice of an engine builder in my area, he is one to those when he talks you listen kinda guys, I got mine new from a place local to me. Pricey as hell. But I liked the fact that they are new and with the place being local to me, as in 15 minutes away, if I ever have a problem it can be taken care of really easy.

Anyway, it probably has something to do with my ****ty internet service, but if any other US users are having that problem, search for the part number on the US site instead. Much cheaper.
