Default Might be a dumb ???....but not to me :)

I've got a squeeaaal.....runnin A/C......squeeeaaal runnin the defroster....
no squeal runnin the dash vents with heat.
Sooooooo....I hear the chirp, chirp, chirp....get under the hood and start convincin myself the water pump must be goin south....the chirp is comin from that direction....
Then I look down ...............now most of my engine building/repairing experience has been with S/B chevys....and I've never ever seen a wobbly harmonic balancer....don't know if Jeep included this wobbly balancer to keep me runnin straight on the road.....or to help absorb the bumps my R/C lift allows me to feel......
But my gut tells me it's DYING So obviously it must be replaced, was curious if anyone else had a similar problem....and swappin the balance was all it took to shut the squeal up????
Thanx........Scott

Could be just the balancer but it sound more like the A/C compressor is going.

Both a/c and defrost will run your a/c compressor...if it goes away when not running compressor...its probably your ___________(if in the blank).

just letting you know my ballancer wobbles some too. I plan on replacing it at some point. It's one of the many things on a long list. But yeah I would have to agree with river.

Check your belt condition and tension first. The a/c compressor coming on will put more stress on the best causing it to squeal.Very common.

My bet is on the A/C compressor. Mine did the same thing. I got lucky and my a/c clutch was still good so I was able to pull the a/c clutch relay and this allows me to still use the defrost.

Thanks y'all....good food for thought. I've always tried to diagnose trouble from the simple (cheap) end..up. But that wobbler just kinda really through me for a loop....think I'll try the belt first, looks fine, feels tight, but ya never know P/O mighta get a red light special at k-mart.
Nope....not my dog Dead 35 pound fawn deer slaying, sheep slaughtering coyote......only good coyote, is a DEAD coyote!!!

replace balancer asap they can cause all kinds of problems when they go bad especially when under load such as running the AC or defroster the belt can actually come off and break other items, radi, water pump

mine did the same thing even after i replaced the comp. and clutch assy., new belt, and new idler pulley. the only thing that worked was tightening the tensioner really tight till there was not much belt tension at all. i hated to tighten it that tight but it was the only way to stop the noise.
