A miss in cylinder 3 and 5??????
2001 Cherokee Sport. I have a miss in cylinders 3 and 5. Replaced coil pack. Replaced spark plugs. Inspected fuel injectors, did not visualy see anything wrong. Anyone have any ideas for me? A common problem that i can try next. Thanks. Chuck

Could be Heat Soak issue, search for it on here or google it, it's easier for you to read up on it then for me to explain. If it is HS you can get a heat sheild from dodge and also you can PM me for a part # for a heat sock for the injectors cause I dont have it in hand right now.gl

No cap and rotor on the 00-01.
Heat soak usually manifests itself with a misfire on cylinder 3, but not usually cylinder 5. Still could be that though.
A cracked 0331 cylinder head usually snaps between cylinder 3 and 4.
My thoughts are that it is likely to be one of the above.

Did you ever sort this out? I have this exact same problem on my 2001. Scanner show miss on cylinders 3 & 5. XJ has 142k on the odo. I'm hoping it is the heat soak issue. So far, the problem has manifested itself under two conditions:
1) Engine driven under load for a period of time then shut off. Tried to restart and it runs extremely rough along with MIL. Let sit for a few minutes to cool with fans running, restart, and idle is very smooth.
2) Vehicle left to idle for a long time and eventually starts to miss and run rough. Start driving to get better airflow and eventually things settle out.
Hopefully this is heat soak or a bad fuel pump/check valve and not the dreaded cylinder head crack.
