Default 'mode door' 2001 cherokee sport

Our problem is that the air (hot or cold) only goes to the defrost vents. Someone here suggested HeaterTreater as a solution but those kind folks say their solution only deals with 'blend' (temperature) issues. Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks and Happy New Year !

Air flow from the defrost vents only can be attributed to loss of vacuum control of the mode doors by the Mode Selector.

Start by looking for cracked, broken or chafed plastic vacuum tubing, and deteriorated or disconnected rubber couplings in the vacuum system

Open this link. It will have pics of the engine bay vacuum system. Inspect the entire system, and remove the battery if required. The last pic shows checking the vacuum system using a Harbor Freight brake bleeder.

Thanks CCKen,

We have now had the Jeep into the shop for this issue twice. The last time I had printed off the images you provided. They are certain that the problem resides inside the dash. Is there a 'simple' solution for a 'mode' problem which does not require removing the dash ?

Thanks

Refer to your other thread with the same exact issue.

I get dizzy trying to keep up with people that do mutiple threads with the same issue.

Over and out..

Does the HVAC system in the 2000-2001 XJs use vacuum or it's electrically operated?

Vacuum.

The Blend-Air Door is electric.

Is there a way to replace the mode door without removing the dash ?
