Mopar Oil Filter Part # for XJs
I'm sure this subject has been beat to death, but when I search this forum, I dont find anything for05281090ab
Physically, it has the same exterior dimensions as the aftermarket filters that fit a 4.0 XJ. Internally, it appears to have a spring that none of the aftermarket oil filters have.

the Mopar oil filter part number in question. Some websites say this is the proper oil filter for my 1995 XJ 4.0 liter engine, some say it is not. Attached are some pics.

If you tell them you need a MO-90 they will get you what you need. The price here is the same between Wal Mart and the local dealer so I usually swing by the local dealer for a filter. Getting small stuff like that has generated a decent relationship with the parts guy and made it a lot easier when trying to find some parts for my 25 year old XJ.

Thanks guys. Interesting thing is that the Advance Auto Parts website and employee at the store (who was looking at his computer) say this is NOT the correct oil filter. But when the employee pulls up the correct Mopar oil filter on his computer, he printed out what you see in the third pic I posted above, which IS the correct oil filter (by the pic of the oil filter in the printout), which its website says is NOT the correct oil filter. Weird. Anyways, I got it now. Thanks!

Old fart with a wrench
Actually any oil filter with a 3/4 X 16 thread and a gasket of the right diameter will work. The only thing besides that that's nice is an anti-drainback valve to hold oil in the filter for startup. I've used Purolator One for years before the guys convinced me to use Wix. The early Renix jeeps used a different filter thread.
