Default More stupid tire questions.

Hey boys and girls.

I was wondering what is the tallest tire I can put on my 99 XJ 4x4 with stock height suspension?

Any good brand recommendations for all terrain tires? Mostly street driven.

I currently have some 215-70-R15 tires the vehicle came with and they are too small for my liking and the speedo actually runs 10 MPH faster than I am actually going.

Anyone know which size tires it came with from the factory?

It probably came with 215/75/15 or 225/75/15. There should be a sticker inside the driver's door with the OEM tire size.

215 or 225 from factory. You can go up to 235's if you don't have too much suspension sag.

Figure out where you are going with your XJ before you decide. No use buying tires if you are planning to lift, or modify until you decide what you want. Do it once, right, before you have to do it again with mods.

Not planning a lift any time soon, maybe never.

Sounds like your mind is made up on wether or not your going to lift it. But allow me to offer a compromise between never and lifted: a budget boost. Cheap and easy and depending on what option you get for the rear, will never wear out. A budget boost, BB, is a poly spacer that sits on top of the spring. The rear you can either use extended (drop) shackles, or an add a leaf (aal). But these will change ride quality and eventually start to sag.

As for tires, you could run a 30" with a 2" BB, but 235's if stock.

Edit- I have 235 dura tracs and a 2" BB and I can rub up front a little if sway bar is disco'd.

Good to know. Mine still has the factory rims. It came with 235/70/15's when I bought it. Gonna replace them for the winter, but wasnt quite sure of best width as Ive heard of people running 215's right thro to 245's. I'll scrape the paint off that sticker and see what I should be using on those old OEM rims.
The biggest I ever saw on a stock xj was a set of 235/80/16's (rims from a grand cherokee). They looked a bit "snug" in the wheel arches. Apparently they ran fine on road, but rubbed quite a bit on rough terrain. The guy couldnt afford even a budget lift, so he took his angle grinder and "modified" his wheel arches.

I ran 235/75/15s for like 2 years. They look pretty decent for a smaller tire. If your wanting to stay on a budget walmart has some goodyear wrangler radials for like 70 bucks a tire, they look pretty decent for an a/t tire and they hold up well, had them on my old truck.

This would be a nice aggressive tire for stock height and it comes in 235/75/15;

Default UPDATE.

I bolted one my mother in law's wheels from her grand cherokee to it today and it looked pretty snug in the wheel arch in front and I'll bet with my sagging rear that they would rub for sure. she is running 235/75/15's.

I think a good compromise would be the budget boost and these tires or just a set of 225/75/15's.

I already have the front spring spacers for a BB kit, but I'm thinking new spring packs in rear and longer shackles.

Can someone provide me a link for the rear springs/shackles?

Will a BB give you alignment or driveline vibration issues?

My 235-75-15s rub a bit on the inside when the wheel is locked in turning. I run Cooper Discovery ST's

Look...go 235s just go to quadratec and get some stock hd leaf packs...that way later if you wanna lift you can use an aal and avoid the shackles.
