Hey bud. You gotta get under there, pull the little dust plate off the front of the bell-housing, and check those bolts holding the torque converter. Mine where loose and Cruiser saw them coming into the dealership that way. You might fix your problem free in an hour, or then you can rule that one out.
Also I should have mentioned above, if I was in Fargo or something I would defiantly run multy weight. In my clearanced old thing here where 40*-50* is normal in the winter, I use something that doesn't break down as fast. Just my 2 cents.

A bit out of date;

Can you post a video? One guy did that without revving it a little, frustrating.

He pops in on the Maryland forum....
I've got an 89 with a knock. Jeep was abused and not maintained properly when I got her. I can almost guarantee that mine is a rod bearing, knock is coming from bottom of block. I'm in the process of building another motor, meanwhile I'm running 10w40 and Lucas Oil stabilizer with a Purolater Pure One oil filter and she is running strong @ 238xxx miles. My wife even took her wheeling Christmas Eve
Gonna run her until she blows, then replace the motor.
