Default motor mounts

Quite some time ago I viewed a post about motor mounts. In this case it would be for a '95 4.0 XJ. There was mention of someone buying and installing undesirable mounts that had a short lifespan and consequently, a higher quality more desirable manufacturers brand that proved to be much better. Can anyone provided that information? David Bruski bruskidave@gmail.com Thanks.

The best motor mounts are Brown Dog, or similar, that use an encased bushing. OEM (Mopar) motor mounts are ok for a daily driver, but they suffer the same fate as any other OEM style motor mount. That being that the rubber is not encased like Brown Dog, etc., and will eventually tear. Its a poor design, really (OEM). Thats my take on motor mounts. I have OEM in my 97 right now, but its a simple daily driver so theyve been good to me. I might ditch those and go with Brown Dog anyway, just because they are a much better design. And the bushings are serviceable, unlike the OEM style. When replacing motor mounts, check the transmission mount. Or just flat out replace it. Avoid Anchor brand transmission mounts. They are garbage. OEM is good, but you can buy better of those as well.

There are two kinds of bushing material. Rubber, and polyurethane. Rubber is softer, with less vibration. More flex. Poly is stiffer, with more vibration. Less flex.

Its not a good idea to post your email publicly like that. Spammers and what not can have a field day with it. Some have used thier email as thier user ID. Also bad. better safe, than sorry, right?

I would agree any mount that is encased is a better design than oem. Brown Dog or MORE mounts are a little more expensive but worth it because they are not really that fun to change out. On a unibody XJ the poly bushings will give you more vibrations then they would on a body on frame vehicle like a Wrangler.

I agree that you should stay away from Anchor. Being the cheapest is a red flag. My XJ stays on pavement or gravel, so I installed Westar, including the transmission mount and have had no problems. There is no space between the rubber compound and steel frame as with the Anchors. While there you should also check the exhaust manifold for cracks - a common result of bad motor mounts. Change the transmission mount first - before the motor mounts. Unlike some motors that stay in place when jacked, the XJ 4.0 will not, so change one mount at a time starting with the left side. A good floor jack is necessary as you will probably have to make slight adjustments of motor height during installation.

They are the same setup as the Brown Dog motor mounts. Like these posted by XJwonders a long time ago. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f72/po...239367/index2/

There is a centered mount, and an offset.

What are you going to us eit for ?
Daily Drive it and maybe do a little camping or go fishing once in a while ? Mopar mounts are good for a couple hundred thousand miles if you keep the oil leaks off them.
Lift it and run trails ? You should have encased mounts.
