Factory recommends Dex-III transmission fluid in the transfercase and gear oil in the tranny.

Use GL-3 gear oil in the tranny as the newer GL-5 stuff will be rough on the syncros

I have my customers using Amsoil MTG now, but before I was a dealer I used MT-90 in both my AX-15 and my Puke-out. Both make the gear changes really smooth on cold days.

I agree on going with what your Owners Manual says for your year tranny.

Because Chrysler is KNOWN for having the strongest trannys... NOT!!

I just find it funny that when a rear tech question comes up it takes 15 people talking smack about how the mechanic is an idiot before someone who knows something chimes in. Kinda like the JY guy telling me all ckweokees 87-95 used the same radiator setup

the only problem with that for the older stuff is you cant get the oil it recommends any more EPA forced changes and even if the rating on the bottle say it will work you may still have problems

can't do that. it is widely known that there was a misprint in the owners manuals and repair manuals saying to use gl-5 gear oil which has zinc in it that will corrode and damage the bronze syncros.

The zinc isnt the problem. Its the sulfur that causes the damage.

And that is a WELL-KNOWN FSM error. IIRC, There was a TSB at one point about it.
