mounting new fan clutch question
Well it's that time of year where it starts getting warmer outside and so does my jeep. I decided to replace my fan clutch today since it's still the original. the old one came out just fine without loosening anything else. Now i bought a new fan clutch and it seems a little longer that i can get it past the studs on the pulley, so i was thinking of maybe pushing the radiator forward a bit. I'm trying to make this is as easy as possible without trying to break anything. would i just need to remove the top two bolts on the top that seem to hold the rad in place or are there more bolts that i need to loosen that will allow me to push the rad forward a bit so i can get this clutch on the pulley.

I put in a new fan clutch with the fan attached with no problems. Are you sure you have the right clutch and that the fan is seated all the way on the clutch?

i tried it without the fan blades on the clutch . It just seems i don't have enough space between the rad and pulley. It's about 1/4in tight so i was trying to see where i can get some wiggle room from.

The fan bolts on the backside of the clutch then the clutch/fan assembly mounts to the pulley. U REALLY NEED A FAN SHROUD....without it, air flow thru the rad is inadequate. (disregard the clutch on the right)

I just want to make sure i can fit this clutch back onto the pulley before i install a shroud. the gap between the studs on the pulley and the rad is what's preventing me from just sliding the clutch in place. So i was trying to get a visual, if possible of the possible nuts/bolts that i need to loosen from the radiator so i can maybe push it forward a bit to get the extra space i need.

IIRC, the shroud and fan/clutch assembly must be installed at the same time. The fan must be inside the shroud and it "all together" be slipped in place. Bolt the clutch to the pulley then snug up the shroud.

I'll try taking a pic of what my issue is. It might be easier that way. I will put the shroud back on and the fan blades on the clutch but only when i know i can get the spacing to get the clutch slipped into the studs . At the moment i don't have enough of a gap between the rad and the studs to slide the clutch in place and the radiator isn't even a 3 row. So i was looking to see which mounting bolts/ nuts i would need to loosen on the radiator that will allow me to push the rad forward a bit so i can get the extra clearance.

Check your motor mounts. (I need to pry my engine back each time I want clearance to get my E-fan out past the PS pump pulley)
Added: My mount has been shredded for years, the trany mount must be shot as well for it to move that much. The engine is still sitting on rubber and the vibration is not bad at all. When I get to my list 'fix things that still work", it will be near the top!
(Was Jack-rabbiting a Ford. As the chain snapped taught, the jeep stopped ,and the engine didn't)

to answer your original question, yes. you can move the radiator back and get your wiggle room by removing the 2 hold nuts on top. if you have to, you can remove the crossmember that those 2 nuts bolts throught, its crazy easy. 5 torque bit bolts on the the front with the hood latch in the middle. Then 6 small (10mm i think) bolts that hold the crossmember on. you remove all that and you'll have plenty of room to get it in there.

My Cherokee doesn't have the shroud. I had it for over a year and I didn't have overheating problems last summer, even without auxiliary fan in +95°F temps.

Are the "didn't have overheating problems last summer" while driving down the hi-way OR sitting stopped in traffic for an hour, on black top pavement, running the a/c, in +95 ambient?
