muffler heat shield nuts - any ideas?
Last week I pulled the nuts off that hold the muffler heat shield in place. One of them was pretty much destroyed in the process
I haven't been able to find any replacement ones locally... anybody have any ideas, aside from going to a junkyard? Pic of the old ones attached.

Thanks for the quick replies; I'll do another round of looking. We do have a True-Value store nearby that I didn't check in. The local (non-chain) auto parts places said they didn't have anything like that.

The name for those parts are "Speed Nuts". They are just stamped sheet metal. Inexpensive replacement for using "Real" hex nuts and washer. Take one with you to your local hardware store and they should have a whole box of them on the shelf. They look to be either a #10 or 1/4 size. The down side of using these in outside applications is they rust and they are not for made to torque down extra tight like a regular nut.

Fastener Info
Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead but I solved my heat shield issues and wanted to share for anyone facing this in the future. The Mopar part number for the stamped retainer part is 6503683 and it's referred to as a "PIN-PUSH". The holes in my heatshield had worn/corroded larger than the original retainer, so I had to improvise.
The thread on the posts is M5x0.8, so I just went to Ace Hardware and picked up some stainless steel hardware.
You will need eight of each:
- M5 nut
- 5/32 x 7/8 fender washer
- 1/4 x 1 1/4 fender washer
You will need an 11mm socket to remove the old PIN-PUSH and an 8mm socket for the M5 nut.
$7.76+tax and your problem is solved
