my 2nd experience with seafoam
Engine was rumbling and shaking a little lately and i've been reading up on threads about seafoam so i decided to give it a try again. I did it before on the tj and got the white smoke show pretty good. I figured the xj has gotta be dirty cuz the DAPO never changed the oil, or only did once or twice in 84k. Sooo i bought a $.99 8oz spray bottle, filled that up 1/2 way and started spraying it in the TB with the jeep running. It started to choke up but i kept on the gas a little. After running out, i poured the rest in the crankcase and shut it off. I let it sit for 10 minutes and started it up and ran to the back to watch the show but.....no smoke I guess there wasn't much carbon build up as i predicted. The next drive in town was niiiiice. It purred like a kitten and didn't rumble anymore. Idle was nice and smooth. Me likey

I've had a can in the garage forever, just haven't used it yet. Perhaps I should...

Shoot I am about to add some to the new motor.. It helps clean any carbon buildup you might have..Now if ya add it to the crank case I'd change the oil after letting it run a bit..

I know I'm new here, so my street cred is zilch, but FWIW... I've been using Seafoam forever. I cannot say enough good things about it. My old man was an NHRA drag racer who did all of his own wrenching and always spoke of the benefits of the stuff. I use it on anything with an engine. Put some in before Winter to stabilize fuel, then in the Spring to clean out the carbs & fuel lines. Seafoam saved me a huge chunk of change when I tried it in my old '84 F-250 diesel. It ran like crap and I was convinced it needed an overhaul as it hadn't been touched in 12 years by a mech. I decided to gamble $7 on a can, and the difference was miraculous. Instant starting, smooth idle, rabbit acceleration - for a diesel (Ha!).
It can be put just about anywhere. Tank, engine, carb, etc.
I recommend to anyone who's considering to just try a can. If it does nothing for you then you're only out a few dollars, but it could mean the diff between spending big bucks on a shop visit and keeping it in your pocket.

If your XJ has over 100,000 (who's doesn't???hahaha)
I would highly suggest NOT putting it in the crankcase.
Unless you intend to change oil a brief time later (less than 25mi)
It has been known to loosen up stuff that keeps seals sealing.
In other words..if it doesn't leak NOW, it MAY later.
What to do with the extra?...Gas tank it -OR- Do ANOTHER XJ.
Used Seafoam for awhile now.
<<---------------------------------------------------------->>
I poured 6oz it in the bucket when I last washed Lil Red.
What a difference:
Before Seafoam--
AFTER Seafoam carwash.....WOW This stuff's AMAZING!!!!
J/K Total
Just needed a reason to show the AFTER pic...again.
