My 4WD is STUCK...
#16
I have a bushing out (ie - gone) on my 242 and have had to hand shift it for a little bit. Just a note, since you are at astop when you disengage it, I've found one disengaged, backing up to about 5mph and giving the steering a little shake releases the front drive shaft.

NO!!
Went out a lunch...got it to engage forward and thought I was good...but it was in Neutral, not 2-Hi. I can go back and forth between 4WD and Neutral, but cannot move it out of other gears....
Maybe I an in 4-Lo? Seems that the graphic the Salad posted is upside-down compared to how the t-case is mounted. But, the `Neutral` position, for me, is ALMOST straight down.
Tried to wiggle back and in/out while pushing forward or revers, but it does not want to move...

Did you do this with the transmission in neutral?
My next suggestion is to jack one of the front wheels up and try turning the front shaft by hand. It's possible the chain is binding and causing a problem with the mode fork (High, Low, and Neutral are the range fork if I recall correctly)

Push harder.
Use a hammer.
You're not in 4-low. You'd notice that on the highway rather quickly.
Pull the front drive shaft off and drive home.

Wheaties....
I'm sure it's towards the case, make sure the shifter is down, grab both ends of the shaft and show that bad boy whos boss.
I'm willing to bet you're missing the same bushing I am, that joins the t-case link shaft to the pivot point on the frame? If it's the first time it's happened, you may have enoungh bushing to take a large flathead and wedge it back on and use normally

The linkage...seems in tact. Once I get the rig home, I might take a picture to post...for now, I just want to move the dumb thing into 2WD.
It is kinda confusing me...pushing the linkage forward (towards the Transmission) is Neutral, and almost vertical straight down. pushing the linkage back (away from the transmission) is 4WD, and is almost horizontal. There two positions are almost 90 degrees....I think...to get to 2-Hi, I need to continue to pull back (really start pushing UP in a counter-clockwise rotation...
It really moves fairly easy between N and 4WD...will try more when I get out of the office...
Thanks again!

Which ever way you're going to get to neutral you need to make it go the other way. The shift pattern is the same as the diagram above. I'm sure you're smart enough to figure that out... just sayin.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Yeah...Don`t know...I drove it for about 10 miles before I could figure out I was in 4WD...My brain cells are not at the top of their game today!

We'll chalk that up as extreme sarcasm????
My liver has been regenerating all week as well as my arms and legs from swapping the front axles out last weekend (hey, I'm a little guy who hasn't seriously wrenched in a while fighting 14 years of salty rust).
Time to stress the liver and get more work done on the jeep before winter hits.
