Not quite stripped yet, but half of the aluminum cap is sheared off. I have a removal set, but the size I need is gone. Had to rip one off back in March and I couldn't get the lug separated from the bolt. Go figure right?

not to rob this thread but I thought it redundant to post another asking the same question, I have a wobble at roughly 56 to 60 and settles a bit after that... I feel it in the front, and in the steering wheel mostly but if I hover at a certain speed 58 or so it shakes like crazy until I hit 64 or 65. I had to replace a rear tire and had it balanced, then I started noticing this. I was thinking I need to balance all the way around now, what do you guys think.

i do know that after i took a mudding trip there was mud packed in the side of the rim and i sprayed some of it out but i didnt think it would be a big deal if i didnt get all of it, after getting a horrible wobble at about 45 mph i got to thinkings that threw the tires way out of balance. went and cleaned them up and the problem never came back. not sure if this helps but hey its worth a try!

No worries. Sounds similar to mine, sitting at affected speeds and it just keeps vibrating. Makes sense. Though my steering wheel doesn't play, just the body. If that makes sense. I'm still heading straight and don't have to fight to keep it going directly forward.

I'll check that as it has been sitting for a bit, I know it has some mud on the rims I'll give it a ****... but thinking of a full balance here soon regardless

death wobble is generally caused from having the castor angle or king pin inclination too steep. You gave probably felt the same thing on a grocery cart where one of the front wheel vertical pivot shafts got bent and the wheel will flip from side to side in rapid succession when the cart is pushed forward.

Often times guys cheapen out and do a lift without replacing the lower arms that locate the axle to the chassis. These need to be longer to keep the castor from becoming too steep.

Tire balance if out will cause the wheels to hammer and the steering wheel to develop a slight shimmy. The death wobble is a side to side flutter of the wheels in rapid succession from left to right that can cause loss of vehicle control.

I think the steering stabilizer was one of the recently replaced parts, I will have to check in the AM.

The jeep isn't lifted in anyway, so putting general wear and tear aside, I wouldn't know why the castor or pin inclination would be off. And it's most definitely DW.

As far as mud caked anywhere, there is none. And I don't think it's ever been offroad. Still has a Twin Citys dealership logo on it, so my guess is some snow birds ran it back and forth till they found an issue not worth fixing in their eyes.

Check all of the recommended parts of steering and drivetrain... There are plenty of threads here to tell you whatto look for.... My Death Wobble problems ( an 88 pioneer XJ and my current 01 XJ) have been due to damaged steel belts in the tires, thus out of balance and out of alignment... If your tires are old or mis- matched, it could be your tire balance... It was for me!
Good luck.

I took the above advice and sprayed out my rims and though it didn't fix it, it did make it a little better. I'll start with a full balance soon and go from there. thanks guys

I obviously think it's a tire issue as well but if all else fails, cause I'm goin thru a lil death wobble myself, this helped me a bit

Steering stabilizers only mask a different problem. Those will not cause death wobble.

Agreed /\ /\

I still believe it is a tire issue as well, especially since he says it is not modified, lifted or anything... I assume the tire size is still factory.....

Ya, I was glancing at this on my cell the other day, haven't looked into it throughly. Also a website something to do with YuccaMan?

I didn't change mine out, it's just been replaced recently or they decided to rip it out just to give it a bath.

Also, the last time I went to Network for an alignment (on a previous vehicle) they refused to do it because they quoted something like $900 of stuff needed to be fixed first. Control arms, bushings, pitman, idk what else. But to the point, if there is more that needs work, which I'm sure there is, where would I go to just get the alignment done?

Oh, and Junior, still factory size yes. 225/75/15. At least I think its factory.
