Is this my fuel pump?
Today my jeep just shut off while driving all of the sudden. I tried restarting it and it would start but would idle really rough and slow bout 200 RPM, and it would would stall out after 3-5 sec. It did that a couple times and now it won't start at all unless I pour gas directing into the engine. I also tried switching the relays and still got no pressure at the fuel rail.
Would this be my fuel pump? Just wanted some other opinions before I have it towed and go buy a pump. Also how hard are these to change some say you have to drop the tank others say you don't.
Thanks again fellas!!!

Can you hear the pump run when you turn the key on? I put in an aftermarket one, it works but is really noisy so I'd go for an OEM if possible, yep the tank has to come down and emptied. Coach

No I can't hear the pump running unless it is really quiet. I was really hoping to not have to drop the tank is that a hard thing to do? Never dropped one out before and what's the best way to drain the tank it's FULL!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Year/engine??
There are significant differences in fuel systems through the years.
Any check engine light? If so, you must pull stored codes for guidance.

Taking the tank down to replace a fuel pump really isn't that bad to do. The biggest pain in the butt is if your bolts are rusty and the retainer holding in the pump. In my case it was rough because my pump waited until I had a full tank. I bought a duralast pump from autozone and got a lifetime warranty so that might be a place to check.

A reader is best, but on a 96 you can do the key trick. Turn the key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON the check the check engine light will start to blinks, on some it takes 5 on-off cycles, my 96 is 3 my 93 is 5, my 97 is reader only. It blinks in sets of 2 didit numbers, count and right down the blinks. Post results

Could be the filter plugged up, take the gas cap off and have a buddy listen for the pump to come on when you turn the ign. on , it should come on for a couple of seconds then cut off when the pressure reachs a pre-set point, if it fails to come on or keeps running, its probably bad, if it sounds good I would change the filter first, way cheaper.
