my Jeep and her first big snow storm. Some questions??
So in my AO we're expecting up to 2 ft of snow. I was out with my Jeep in it this morning and no problems pulled through the snow like a champ.
My question is what do y'all recommend in snow? Full or part time.
On both....
A- On road lots of turns.
B- off road fields and trail riding.
Thanx

well unless you have the 242 t-case you don't have that option... its either 2wd 4-hi or 4-lo
but assuming that you do have it i'd use part time on roads for the casual drive and the 4wd full-time on the trails..

I was told the exact opposite
Part time 4WD with the 242 is the pretty much the same as full time with the 231
cant use it on dry pavement
Full time high with the 242 is used on semi dry/snowy roads

Thanks y'all still new to the full time/part time/low range.
I'm used to the high/low from my old explorer.
Dumb question but I want to make sure I'm right in my info. What's the main difference between full and part time.?

Full time = independent
Part time = all locked.
Just sounds *** backwards to me.

Get enough of the snow you might end up in 4WD Lo
I drove my 91 in part time last year and didnt have much of a problem but I would go to 2WD on wet roads. In the 96 Im going to check out the fulltime Hi see if it still binds up on wet roads

Full time 4x4 is what you would use when there is dry road. There is a some slip between the front and rear outputs.
Part time 4x4 is what you would use when its all wet, or all dirt. No slip between the front and rear outputs.
I run Full time when it is snowing and I'm driving on the roads. If the roads are fully covered I might use Part time. But when it really gets ugly and deep, I throw it in 4 lo to keep the wheel speeds up, like when breaking new trail...

Never use part time on dry pavement! The wheels must be allowed to slip a little. I think for wet and icy conditions full time is best.
Jeep seems to have made this a bit confusing. By "part time" they mean only use this mode part of the time...as in offroad not on pavement. By "full time" they mean on and off pavement. or at least this is what I have found to be true.

OK. Excuse the newbness here but I am a first time 4wd owner. I've had my Cherokee since September and havent had a chance to play with the 4wd yet. What exactly is the difference between full-time and part-time in what the vehicle does and how you select it. I thought there was only 2wd, 4hi, and 4lo on the selector.
