that part isn;t accessible from the inside. all the brackets for the spare tire and gas tank filler are in the way. you wouldnt be able to get a hammer in there nvm get a good swing at it. i like the steel plate cover thingy idea.

that plastic elbow is part of the crankcase vent system because our jeeps dont have pcv valves and just go to the junkyard and throw one in your pocket

yep, and the vent doesnt let fresh air in, it lets the positive pressure of the crankcase out. it goes to your air cleaner so that any blow by doesnt just vent under your hood and go into your vents (ask me how i know). the blow by and oil vapors go into the air box, and back into your engine.

like 84wagoneer was saying... it is called a breather, and it it allows blow by off the valves to waste out into your air box.

not exactly off the valves, but the gasses that get past the piston rings. common on higher mileage motors.

I replaced the tail light, as you can see, but I want to make that look atleast...not like that.

My idea. take a piece of sheet metal, crudely pop rivet it on there, then take some expandable foam, spray it behind it, just to have something there, and proceed to unexperiencedly (word?) bondo it to its rightful Jeep glory.

anybody else got any ideas? again...it is a jeep, so i mean...perfection is not required.

Follow up question...

What the heck is this...and where can i get something to replace it!

Thanks for anything. ya'll are always so helpful.
I bet the "the high school female" has insurance

I just pulled one out worse than that using a couple of pieces of 2x4, a bunch of 3/8 lag bolts and big washers, a winch with some chain, a rubber hammer and a tree. Drill 2 or 3 3/8 holes just on the inside of the seam, remove the rear trim (before or after drilling the holes), now you should be able to wedge the 2x4 against the holes. Put the lag bolts through some chain and tighten them into the 2x4, now gently pull with the winch and don't be afraid to tap the creases in the fold with the hammer to help it pop out. Mine had multiple folds (from tail light to rear door) from the PO backing into a light post I'm guessing (he says he was hit in a parking lot but didn't see it happen and didn't know who did it however I don't believe it based on the damage to the Jeep, just can't see too many cars driving away from that kind of frontal impact).

now that I look at that picture more of the valve cover it looks a lot different than mine did. Still I just got rid of mine and stuck a filter on there lol.

Either way you can replace it fairly easy like the others said.
